Veon-owned digital telco Beeline Kazakhstan and Japan’s Rakuten Symphony have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore ways to collaborate on next-generation connectivity, digital services, and cloud-native network infrastructure.

The MoU, which was revealed last week, establishes a framework for both companies to cooperate on software-driven telecom networks and scalable digital platforms. Priority tech areas include Open RAN architectures, AI-powered network intelligence, next-generation digital platforms, cloud solutions, and global IoT and mobile workforce connectivity.

Beeline Kazakhstan CEO Evgeniy Nastradin said the two firms aim to leverage Beeline’s local expertise and digital ecosystem with Rakuten Symphony’s experience in cloud-native networks and open, automated architectures to support long-term modernization of connectivity infrastructure and development of advanced digital services in Kazakhstan

“Our networks and business models are undergoing a profound transformation driven by cloud, automation and artificial intelligence,” Nastradin said in a statement. “By pairing our local expertise with Rakuten Symphony’s global innovation capabilities, we seek to unlock new opportunities for Kazakhstan’s digital ecosystem.”

Beeline Kazakhstan’s pair-up with Rakuten Symphony comes almost two years after Veon’s Ukrainian subsidiary Kyivstar [signed of a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Rakuten Symphony](https://developingtelecoms.com/telecom-business/operator-news/16285-kyivstar-plans-to-buy-open-ran-gear-from-rakuten-symphony.html) in February 2024 to use Rakuten’s Open RAN and 5G technologies to help rebuild Ukraine's digital infrastructure and support Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction.
