Satellite firm Viasat is partnering with Intercorp Peru to expand digital and social inclusion across Latin America.

Intercorp Peru offers educational, financial and retail services throughout the LatAm region. The new agreement will see it cooperate with US-based Viasat, using the latter’s Community Internet system to deliver connectivity to underserved or unserved communities.

The Community Internet project provides broadband access through a ViaSat satellite connected via a centralised hotspot. The agreement currently aligns this with the ViaSat-2 satellite network, and this will expand as ViaSat-3 coverage increases across Latin America. The initial footprint will include Guatemala, Honduras and Jamaica, with South American regions to follow once ViaSat-3 is live.

CommsUpdate reports that the companies will use beverage firm CBC as their distribution partner for the region, given that its network “can quickly bring quality internet service to the depth of Latin America.”
