The Mayor’s Office of Bogota in Colombia and cybersecurity and digital privacy company Kaspersky have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish closer cooperation and enhance the city’s cybersecurity ecosystem.
The two organisations have agreed to promote joint initiatives in the fields of cyber capacity building, digital literacy raising, threat intelligence sharing, and critical infrastructure protection.
Through the collaboration with the Colombia Capital District, Kaspersky says it has reinforced its commitment to the region by providing technical capabilities and international expertise to help organisations and citizens tackle an ever-evolving digital threat landscape.
It notes that, as Bogota has made significant progress in digitising public services and expanding connectivity, the city needed stronger protection for essential services and a greater institutional and citizen preparedness against digital risks.
The alliance will be implemented through four concrete lines of action.
Firstly, Kaspersky will provide cybersecurity training programmes for Capital District officials and ICT teams, both virtually and in person.
Also, digital literacy initiatives will be developed based on content created by Kaspersky Expertise Centres teams, who research new digital threats daily and respond to real-life cyber incidents.
In addition, both parties will share technical information regarding cyberattacks affecting Bogota. Kaspersky will provide the agency with access to the company’s threat intelligence data on the threat landscape around the world.
Finally, Kaspersky will contribute technical expertise to support the development of cybersecurity frameworks and standards applicable to critical infrastructure in the Capital District and, where appropriate, across the country.
Daniela Alvarez de Lugo, General Manager, NOLA, at Kaspersky, explains: “Through this agreement, we will exchange threat intelligence information affecting the territory and the citizens of Bogotá, with the aim of strengthening digital protection. Since cybercriminals know no borders, collaboration between the public and private sectors is the best strategy to build a safer world for people, businesses, and governments.”
Colombia has served as Kaspersky’s business hub for Northern Latin America since the opening of its office and Transparency Centre in Bogota in 2024.
