Estonia’s Telia Eesti is planning an investment of €10 million (US$11.3 million) into its mobile networks for 2020.
The operator, which is the Estonian unit of Sweden’s Telia Group, invested a similar sum into its operations during 2019. However, the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has seen voice and data traffic surge in Estonia.
This has highlighted the need for the operator to expand and upgrade its infrastructure to meet demand. To this end, Telia Eesti deployed roughly 80 new base stations for 3G and 4G services between January and May this year.
Additionally, the operator is expanding the frequency range of its 3G service in the capital of Tallinn and the surround area, as well as upgrading its VoLTE offering to meet increasing demand.
